Religious Recognitions for Girl Scouts

Supported by the Interfaith Committee of GSSWT The Girl Scout movement has recognized that girls require developmental support in all facets of life. Our founder, Juliette Gordon Low, not only had a personal faith base, but included acknowledgement of an individual’s faith in our Promise and in the values declared in our Law. Girl Scouts of the USA offers the My Promise, My Faith program that can be found in the Shop and in the Resource Center. Girls can repeat this program annually and be awarded a pin each year that the requirements are met.

Girls who are interested in going the extra mile in connecting their faith and their Girl Scouting experience may elect to participate in a Religious Recognition Program that is open to girls at all levels during their Girl Scouting years.

National programs are designed for girls at each level of Girl Scouting. Some programs match those that our Boy Scout brothers may select allowing a body of faith to offer a mixed class that will benefit children in both organizations. Access to an overview of the programs is available at: www.praypub.org. Select your faith preference from the drop down and those resources may be viewed.

The Catholic Diocese of San Antonio has developed local Catholic Awards that may be offered within the Pathway Guide or accessed for individuals to complete.

Some girls or troops may want to sponsor a special event that is faith-based. This could be a Girl Scout Sunday/Sabbath, retreat, service project or celebration. Members of the Interfaith committee are available to support in consultation or planning for these opportunities.

The Inter-faith committee for GSSWT is available to support you in accessing information, resources and setting up the classes or events that will meet the needs of interested girls in the pathway of their choice.
