Luis de la Garza
Luis is president and CEO of Texen Power Company, LLC. He is an attorney with 15 years experience in corporate and private practice and 23 years as a corporate executive with Valero Energy Corporation, PG&E Gas Transmission Company, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas and Texen Power Company. Luis received a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1966 and a Juris Doctor in 1975 from the University of Texas at Austin as well as a Master of Business Administration in 1972 from the University of Hawaii. Luis has served on the board of directors for the San Antonio Public Library Foundation, Southern Region of Boy Scouts and Texas Business and Education Coalition. He also has served on the advisory boards of University of Texas at San Antonio Business School and University of Texas at Austin College of Engineering. Luis served as co-chairman of the President's Council of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio and was chairman of the board of directors for United Ways of Texas. He has served on the board of directors for the Greater San Antonio Chamber and San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Luis served as chairman of the Southwest ISD Education Foundation Endowment Fund and was founding chairman of the South Texas Hispanic Fund. He currently serves on the board of directors of the San Antonio Area Foundation, Boy Scouts of America Alamo Area Council and UT Health Science Center at San Antonio President’s Development Board. Luis is a Vietnam veteran, having served as a U.S. Marine Corps fighter pilot with 200 combat missions and 20 combat decorations flying the F4B Phantom II fighter/bomber aircraft. He has been honored as a member of Marquis Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who Among Hispanic Americans and as a Distinguished Graduate of the University of Texas at Austin Naval ROTC Program. Luis has served as a member-at-large (2009-2013), as the Board Development Committee Chair (2009-2011) and member of the Executive and Fund Development committees for GSSWT. Luis is married to Sherry Hatcher and they are active members of Coker United Methodist Church. When not doing volunteer work, they enjoy traveling to spend time with their three sons, two daughters-in-law, and five young grandchildren.
