Camp Pathway

The Camp Pathway captures participation in day/twilight or resident camp. It allows girls to participate in the outdoors and/or focus on environmental education. The Camp Pathway is available to any girl regardless of previous Girl Scout involvement, can be volunteer or staff led and supported, is offered and repeated throughout the membership year, and requires council approval to operate. Girls must be currently attending or have completed Kindergarten to participate.

Camp Pathway Includes:

Day/twilight camp offerings for girls who are currently attending or have completed Kindergarten (or older), and who typically meet for at least three consecutive days for four or more hours.

Resident camp offerings for girls who have completed Kindergarten; camp sessions are scheduled for three to fourteen days (the average is four nights). Campers reside at the program site for the duration of the camp. Resident camp is typically delivered by both volunteers and seasonal, part-time staff during the summer season.

Weekend camp includes offerings for girls currently attending or have completed Kindergarten (and above), and typically lasts for two or three days, with overnights. Special weekend camp events include:

  • Haunted Forest of Camp Mira Sol: Spend a bone chilling, spook-tacular weekend in the Haunted Forest of Camp Mira Sol! During your goulish stay, you can enter the costume contest, visit all the ghost and goblins while trick or treating and join in all the spooky fun. This program is for Girl Scout Brownies, Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors. Registration is through the Program/Training Guide.
  • Winter Horse Camp: A fun-filled weekend program for Girl Scout Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors held at Camp La Jita. Participants learn about saddling, bridling, and grooming horses. Time is also spent riding horses and the weekend includes a trail ride along the Sabinal River. Registration is through the Program/Training Guide.
  • Troop Camp: A troop experience of one or more nights, in a camp setting, planned and carried out by the girls and leaders of the troop. Troops must have a Troop Camp Leadership (TCL) certified person and at least one other person currently certified in adult/chid CPR and first aid (both from a nationally recognized agency) in order to camp. The TCL may not serve as the first aider (first aider is assumed to be the person with CPR, but may be a third person). Girl/adult ratios must be met. If camping on council-owned property, troops may submit applications, on a first-come first-served basis, up to six months in advance. Must register with Camp Registrar.
  • Service Unit Camping on Council-owned Sites: To reserve space at camp, a Council-Owned Site Use Application must be submitted to the Camp Registrar. Requests for service unit camping at council-owned camps are taken on a first-come first-served basis, up to 12 months in advance. For service units approved for camping, the adult in charge (normally the Service Unit Outdoor Consultant) will receive a Service Unit Assignment Form. It is the responsibility of the adult in charge to list each troop participating (even those coming for the day only), unit requested, certified adults for each troop and their certification information (including copies of the trainings not taken through GSSWT), arrival/departure dates and times, and emergency contact information. It is also her/his responsibility to ensure that the unit capacities are not exceeded.

Men at Camp -- We encourage fathers and/or male leaders to participate in camping activities. Men must stay in separate facilities from the girls and female adults -- GSSWT Camp Registrar will assign sleeping quarters and bathrooms.
