Support Her Good Intentions

As a friend and supporter of Girl Scouts, you know firsthand the critical issues facing our young girls and the urgency we face in helping them grow up to be leaders and contributing citizens. Thousands of women today credit their successes in life to the values and skills learned through their participation in Girl Scouts. Today our efforts are focused on 18,000 girls in the region who need our commitment to their growth and development so that they too will find success.

Today's girls represent humanity's largest untapped talent pool who have good intentions about what they want to do with their lives. As girls go, so goes their nation. According to The Center for Global Development, the welfare of girls is fundamental to a society's economic and social progress.

A nationwide survey released recently by Girl Scouts of the USA paints an encouraging picture about a new generation of youth responsible to themselves and to others, who value diversity, acceptance and community involvement. Called Good Intentions: The Beliefs and Values of Teens and Tweens Today, the study shows more ethical and responsible beliefs and values, as well as civic involvement among teens and tweens today, a marked shift from a similar study two decades ago.

On a range of issues from lying and cheating to smoking and drinking to having sex at an early age, a significant number of respondents indicated that when faced with such situations, they intend to make responsible decisions. They also intend to engage in their communities, as voters, charitable donors and volunteers.

Imagine a new generation of leaders:

  • Who lead in a new way
  • Who lead out of principle rather than pride
  • Who care what leadership is for, more than who it's for
  • Who step across barriers of class and race every day
  • Who seek out the work that needs doing in the world
  • And with their good intentions, bring boundless energy to every challenge.

They are today's Girl Scouts and tomorrow's future. Imagine what that generation of women can accomplish, if only their good intentions are supported.

That's where you come in.  In a year when every dollar counts for most families, the need to support a girl's participation in Girl Scouts has never been more important. As someone who understands that our future depends on our investment in youth, we are counting on your help.

Support GSSWT While Shopping Online!

Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas is excited to announce our participation in OneCause, a way for friends and volunteers to support Girl Scouts while doing the things they already do anyway, online shopping and credit card purchasing.

There are several ways for GSSWT to benefit from OneCause:

  • The merchants that are part of OneCause will pay Girl Scouts 1% to 20% of the amount spent, depending on the merchant.  The average amount is 4%.
  • There is a OneCause VISA card available that will pay 1% of all purchases to your cause, with a $25 bonus when the first purchase is made on the card.
  • Purchases at local merchants that have registered with OneCause.
  • Use of the OneCause toolbar.

To get started, sign up with OneCause and then click through the OneCause Web site for all your online shopping needs. Please consider directing your friends and family there, too. Get detailed instructions on how to sign up here.
