Heather is the Director of Transaction Tax at Valero Energy Corporation. Heather manages a department of more than 30 tax professionals and is responsible for overseeing the filing of more than 6,000 returns each year. Tax payments made by the Transaction Tax group are in excess of $4 billion per year and include sales and use tax payments, motor fuel tax payments, value added tax payments and excise duty tax payments. Prior to becoming the Director of Transaction Tax, Heather was a manager in Valero’s Technical Accounting Research department. In that role, she performed research of technical accounting issues related to Valero and drafted position papers around technical accounting topics. Heather also held a manager position in Valero’s internal reporting group. In that capacity, she was responsible for assisting in the execution and consolidation of all financial data for Valero. Prior to joining Valero in 2007, Heather was a senior manager with Ernst & Young, LLP in San Antonio where she serviced various industries including financial services companies, insurance companies and refining and marketing companies. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University, has a Master’s degree from St. Mary’s University and is a certified public accountant. Heather has served as a member-at-large for GSSWT and enjoys volunteering. Heather is married to Patrick, an English teacher and head baseball coach at TMI–The Episcopal School of Texas. She and Patrick have a six year old daughter, Rainey.
