For 26 years, Girl Scouts has selected an outstanding woman and dedicated community leader who embodies the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Movement and has presented her with the Trefoil Award. Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas honored Carri Baker Wells in recognition of her lifelong achievements, particularly her contributions to the community on Thursday, September 26, 2013.
Carri Baker Wells is a Key Executive and Chief Operations Officer for the San Antonio Office of Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP. She joined the firm in 1985 and has helped support the organization in becoming one of the premier law firms in the United States founded in San Antonio that provides effective solutions to more than 2,000 governmental entities in the collection of their receivables.
From the time she moved to San Antonio in 1985, Carri has been an active volunteer supporting a variety of educational and economic development initiatives. She has served The Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce as a key volunteer more than 20 years including Chairman of the Board in 2010. She served on the SA2020 Steering Committee which led to her role as one of the Tri-chairs for the 2012 City of San Antonio Bond Election and Campaign Treasurer. A longtime advocate for education, she has supported many initiatives that have benefitted both public education and higher education. Carri was instrumental is re-establishing the San Antonio ISD Foundation and currently serves as Chairman of the Board. She is on the Regional Board for Teach for America, serves as the 2012 Go Red for Women Chairman, and actively supports the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas. Over the years Carri has played a key role in many community organizations including San Antonio Sports, KLRN Public Television, the Northside and Alamo Heights School Foundations, the Texas A&M University System, UTSA, Texas Lyceum, and the Junior League of San Antonio. She is the only woman to have served as Board Chairman of the 12th Man Foundation at Texas A&M University.
Carri was inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame in 2010, and also received the Diamond Award by the LaPrensa Foundation. The San Antonio Business Journal recognized Carri with the Women’s Leadership Award for Volunteerism in 2010 and the 40 Under 40 Rising Star Award in 1996. She also received the Chamber’s Pinnacle Award as Volunteer of the Year in 2004.
Carri is originally from Houston, Texas where her family continues to reside. She is married to J. Tullos Wells, the Honorary Consul of Canada in San Antonio and the Senior Partner of the San Antonio Office of Bracewell and Giuliani, LLP. In 1995, Tullos served as Chairman of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce which in 2010 made them the first husband and wife to serve as chairman of a large urban Chamber in Texas. They have a daughter, McKensie, who is a Spanish Immersion student in the Alamo Heights Independent School District.
