Come join the fun at Winter Horse Camp. It’s already that time again to register for a  fun-filled weekend of horses galore at Camp La Jita. Ride horses and spend time at the barn learning about saddling, bridling and grooming horses. Top off the weekend with a  trail ride along the beautiful Sabinal River at Camp La Jita. (Each girl will be tested in order to go on the trail ride. If rider or riding staff feels a rider is unable to ride the trail,  she will be given extra time in the arena.) Time on Friday will be spent meeting the riding staff and moving in. Saturday or Sunday will be barn time. Each group will spend  approximately three hours at the barn. Adults interested in riding, please pay $55 fee when you register. This camp program is for Girl Scout Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors and  Ambassadors.

Fee: $55/person; $35/person not riding

Registration Details:

  • Minimum: 10 people
  • Maximum: 75 people
  • Deposit Due (non-refundable): 25% with registration
  • Balance Due/Close Date: December 20
  • Scholarships: NOT available for this program.

Notes: No tag-a-longs at the barn. Groups must supply their own Troop Camp Leadership (TCL) and certified first aider (certification must accompany registration). In order to serve more girls, only adults who meet the adult/girl ratio will be accepted. Groups will do their own cooking and will share a unit with other groups. Not all time will be spent at the barn, so plan additional group activities. Trading Post will be open. Adult volunteers are needed to help at the barn or cook for the riding staff. Camp La Jita offers great opportunities for service projects, nature crafts, hiking trails, and additional badge work! Additional group camp activities included in confirmation email.

Outcomes: Girls will develop a strong sense of self. Girls develop critical thinking skills. (TB)
