Trefoil Award Luncheon Fundraiser

Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas has annually honored an area woman who has made a significant contribution to the community and represents the ideals and values of a Girl Scout. The Trefoil Award is the highest honor we bestow outside of Girl Scout-related awards. New Trefoil honorees join a long line of inspiring women who have worked to make the world a better place, just like Girl Scouts do.
This year, we are celebrating a woman of distinction who has made a difference in our community. The 2025 Trefoil Award recipient is Margie Klesse. Join us Wednesday, September 24, at 11:00 a.m as we honor her and continue to celebrate women in leadership!
Margie Klesse was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as the third of eight children. Because of her father’s position with Veterans Affairs hospitals, she moved several times as she grew up. Margie attended the University of Dayton in Ohio, where she met her husband, Bill, and earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. She and Bill married after graduation. Margie worked as a chemist for a short time before they moved to Dumas, Texas, where Bill worked as an engineer for Diamond Shamrock, now Valero Energy Corporation. They moved to San Antonio in 1983.
Margie is a homemaker and has volunteered throughout the years for many organizations including University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio’s Cancer Council, Ronald McDonald House, San Antonio Junior Forum, the San Antonio Library Foundation, the Southwest Foundation Forum, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, and others. The Klesses, through their foundation, support many activities and numerous charitable organizations that focus on faith, children, and community needs. They are very active with the University of Texas at San Antonio and the University of Dayton, providing scholarships for students.
Margie enjoys the outdoors, playing tennis and golf, and walking. She has run marathons, climbed mountains, skied and camped, primarily in Colorado.
Margie’s three daughters are all doctors and have provided them with nine grandchildren. Each daughter is active in their community. Today, Margie enjoys travel, outdoor activities, and helping young people achieve a better life.

Each honoree receives the Trefoil Recognition Award at their celebration, designed by artist Gini Garcia of Garcia Art Glass.
Artist’s statement:
“This award is the embodiment of the ideas that have come to be known for Girl Scouts: courage, confidence, and character. I began by using a classical vessel shape. This form, representing the gift of fertility, sits on top of a clear solid cast pedestal. The intertwining colors symbolize passion and growth and are complementary colors.”
An investment in Girl Scouts is an investment in making our community better, stronger, and brighter.
