Girls have two session options based on level of experience and age:
Novices and Mates (For girls entering grades 7-12 in Fall 2024 only)
Join us as we sail Sunfish sailboats around the lake. As a Novice or Mate, you will learn techniques used by sailors around the world. You will rig, de-rig, and learn how to use the wind to sail. By Friday, you will have enough skills to sail a Sunfish around the lake. The United States Sailing Association Course will be our guide for developing skills. You will learn primitive camping skills such as sleeping in a tent and participate in special art projects, campfires, and sing-alongs of our favorite songs. And of course, playing in the lake is always on the schedule!
NOTE: Girls must be able to swim 24 yards and support themselves fully clothed in deep water for three (3) minutes. Girls must weigh 75 pounds or more. They must be emotionally prepared to work in a group situation with peers (group cooking, crewing a boat) and physical capable of loading and unloading small boats in groups.
Skippers (For girls entering grades 9-12 in Fall 2024 only)
Skippers will continue mastering their United States Sailing Association Skills using Sunfish, sloops, and Hobie Cat boats. Skippers will develop leadership and mentoring skills while participating in camp activities. Art projects, campfires, singing our favorite songs, and playing in the lake are always included. Note: Girls must have successfully completed the Novices/Mate program during a previous GSSWT Sailing Camp to participate.
