Planning to participate in activities near water? Think you might just be wading around in water below the knees? Basic Water Rescue (BWR) is a course that provides participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies. It also prepares participants for aquatic emergencies by teaching them how to protect themselves while assisting others. BWR is required for groups doing activities that call for watchers or helpers certified in BWR. BWR may be suitable for groups that plan to fish on docks, wading with a life jacket, and from small crafts, or conduct activities near, but not in, water such as a beach cleanup at a local lake. They are also used for activities requiring lifeguards and watcher for ratios, such as swimming. Basic Water Rescue does not provide participants with all the knowledge and skills needed to be certified as a lifeguard. Fulfills the requirements for the second step of the Cadette Safety Award. Open to Cadettes, Seniors, Ambassadors, and Adult Volunteers. Certification valid for 3 years. Pre-requisite: Participants must be comfortable swimming in water chest deep.
