"Girl-led" is one of the core foundations of Girl Scouting ... but let's be honest, it can also feel like one of the hardest concepts to put into practice. How do you give girls meaningful choices without your meetings turning into complete chaos? Where's the balance between letting girls lead and making sure everyone leaves having accomplished something?
This training is designed to take the mystery out of girl-led programming. We'll break down what girl-led really means (and what it doesn't), explore age-appropriate ways to give girls ownership, and share practical strategies that allow girls to build confidence while leaders maintain structure.
You'll learn how to shift from being the person who runs every meeting to the leader who guides girls toward making decisions, solving problems, and taking pride in what they've accomplished. Whether you're leading Daisies taking their very first vote or older girls planning service projects and adventures, you'll walk away with tools you can implement at your very next meeting.
In this training, you'll learn:
* What "girl-led" actually looks like at every Girl Scout level.
* Simple ways to offer meaningful choices without overwhelming girls.
* How to maintain structure while encouraging independence.
* Strategies for handling disagreements and decision-making.
* How to gradually build leadership skills instead of expecting girls to lead overnight.
* Easy activities that naturally encourage girl ownership.
By the end of this session, you'll feel confident creating meetings where girls have a genuine voice, leaders feel less stressed, and everyone leaves feeling successful. Because girl-led isn't about giving up control ... it's about intentionally handing it over, one small step at a time.
