SAN ANTONIO, TX (May 1, 2023)—Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas announced today that Gina Abad, of San Antonio, has been appointed Chief Mission Officer (CMO) of the council. With more than 30 years of experience working for Girl Scouts, most recently as the Director of Member and Volunteer Services, Abad brings a wealth of talent and knowledge to this reimagined role, previously the Chief Operating Officer.
As CMO, Abad joins the council’s senior executive leadership team and oversees mission delivery teams including membership and volunteers, Girl Scout programming and camps, community partners, and customer service. These teams drive council-wide growth by offering relevant programs and adult learning opportunities to members while supporting the essential role of our volunteers.
“Gina’s passion, dedication, work ethic, and love of our mission will build on the foundation of our past successes,” said Major General Angie Salinas, U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), CEO of Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas. “Her strategic vision and long-range planning skills combined with her steady leadership style are force multipliers that will benefit the entire council.”
Abad began her career in 1990 in Brownwood, Texas, at what was then the Heart of Texas Girl Scout Council, where she held numerous positions in administration before working to support membership services in 2000. She relocated to San Antonio and joined the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas staff in 2002, serving as a director in membership development with responsibilities for recruitment, retention, adult learning, and program functions.
“We have a phenomenal staff and dedicated volunteers who give their talents, time, and energy to provide a safe space for girls to learn and grow,” Abad said. “I look forward to leading our work to support them as we build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.”
With a reputation for dedication and success, Abad received the Best of the Best Staff Excellence Award from Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas in 2010. A proud Roadrunner and active member of Alpha Kappa Delta international honor society of sociology, Abad will receive a bachelor’s degree in sociology with minors in nonprofit management and civic engagement from the University of Texas at San Antonio this month. She devotes her personal time to family and friends, including her husband, two children, and three grandchildren.
