SAN ANTONIO, TX (January 15, 2026)—After serving 10 years as Chief Executive Officer for Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, Angie Salinas, Major General (USMC, Ret) announces her plans to retire later this year.
Prior to joining Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, Major General Salinas served in the United States Marine Corps for 39 years and made history as the first Latina promoted to its general officer ranks. At the time of her retirement in 2013, Major General Salinas was the senior ranking woman and the senior Hispanic in the Corps.
She joined Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas as its 13th CEO in 2015 and has led the organization through muliple milestones, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the council’s centennial celebration in 2024, and the visioning and fundraising for the Backyard for All Girls project – an $8.5 million major gifts campaign that was completed in August and will break ground on January 24, 2026.
As Chair of the Board of Directors for Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, Lea Ream said, “Angie has been an incredible leader of our Council. She has embraced the role of CEO wholeheartedly for 10 years, increasing the visibility of Girl Scouts in San Antonio and throughout the counties served by our Council. Her leadership has been sincerely appreciated by the board. Angie helped the organization persevere through some of our most challenging times, and her retirement is well deserved. Angie is admired by the entire community but most importantly by our Girl Scouts. She will be deeply missed.”
The board of directors will promptly begin recruitment efforts to select the organization’s next Chief Executive Officer. To ensure a seamless transition, Major General Salinas will remain in her role through September 1, 2026.
Following her retirement, Major General Salinas intends to remain in San Antonio and active in her public service commitments.
