Gold Award Girl Scouts are rock stars, role models, and real-life heroes. How do they do it? By using everything they’ve learned as a Girl Scout to solve a problem in their community or make a lasting change in their world.

Seniors and Ambassadors who want to go for the Gold Award build a team of trusted adults, peers, and leaders in their community to guide them through challenges and support their success.

Plus? Nothing beats that feeling of seeing real, lasting, and sustainable change and knowing it was you who made it happen. It changes the way you see your place in the world—and how the world sees you.

You can become a Gold Award Girl Scout if you:

Are in ninth, tenth, eleventh, or twelfth grade
Are a registered Girl Scout Senior or Ambassador
Have completed the Silver Award or a Senior/Ambassador Leadership Award

Gold Award proposals and final reports are reviewed on a monthly basis by the Volunteer Gold Award Committee.

Please allow 1-4 weeks from the time of your submission to hear back from the Teen Girl Experience Specialist.

Once your submission has been reviewed, you will be contacted to schedule a virtual interview with the Volunteer Gold Award Committee. The interview is a requirement for both the proposal and final report approval.

Deadlines

Proposal: The last day to submit your proposal is May 1 of your 12th grade year (i.e. if your high school graduation is in 2026, your proposal deadline is May 1, 2026). This is a council deadline to ensure Girl Scouts are completing their projects with a sufficient amount of time.

Final Report: The Gold Award final report must be turned in by September 30 of your graduating year OR your 18th birthday, whichever comes later.

Gold Award Ceremony: To be included in the current year’s Gold Award Ceremony, your final report must be submitted by March 1 of the year you wish to be honored.

GSUSA Gold Award Year is tracked from April 1 – March 30.

Class of 2027 – April 1, 2026 – March 30, 2027

Final reports submitted within this time frame will be celebrated in May 2027.

Class of 2028 – April 1, 2027 – March 30, 2028

How to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award

Please note: A Money-Earning Solicitation Form (PDF) must be completed before you can begin your Gold Award project.
Register for a Gold Award Training. The council offers in-person trainings that you can find listed on our Event Calendar.

Find an issue in your community or the world that you care about.
Learn everything you can about that issue through research and trusted sources.
Form a team by identifying experts and people in your community who could help you.
Think about the root cause of an issue, then make a plan of how you could tackle it.
Submit your project proposal via the GoGold website.

Lead your team and carry out your plan.
Reflect on the change you’ve created in your community and the world, share your story, and inspire others to make a difference, too.
